Labor day’s week-end in Vermont
Pour ces 3 jours de repos le labo de Diane avait organisé un week-end dans le Vermont.
Nous sommes arrivés le samedi vers 5H c’est à dire pile pour l’heure du souper (oui oui ici on mange à l’heure du gouter…). Etant donné qu’il y a beaucoup de chinois dans le labo de Diane, les repas ont été asiatique durant tout le week-end. J’ai donc fait de nouvelle expérience culinaire comme les oeufs marinés il y a 6 mois et conservés sous vide.
Le sourire est forcé car je m’apprête à gouter les fameux oeufs marinés qui sont devenus noirs pour une raison occulte.
Ils ont aussi ramené une sorte de concombre qui faisait plus d’un mètre de long (décidément ils ont vraiment des trucs bizarres ces chinois) qu’on a mangé le lendemain dans une soupe enfin plutôt un bouillons car c’est des trucs bouillis servi avec l’eau de cuisson…

Le gite était plutôt sympa, il pouvait accueillir 25 personnes, et il était équipé d’un sauna et d’un jacuzzi extérieur (que l’on n’a pas pu testé car le temps n’était pas superbe)

Le lendemain matin (dimanche pour ceux qui n’ont pas suivis) il était prévu une ballade pour monter sur les cols mais le temps ne s’étant pas améliorer ca a été annulé.
Mais nous sommes quand même partis Greice, sa famille, Diane et moi explorer les alentours. Tout d’abord en voiture puis nous avons profité d’une accalmie pour entamer une marche d’environ 1,6 miles (soit environs 2,6km). Facile me diriez vous, mais c’est sans compter la praticabilité du chemin : ce fut 1,6 miles tout en monté sur des rochés sur lesquels il avait plus toute la matinée. Mais ce fut une très jolie ballade.

Le “chemin”
Après avoir marché, escaladé, et glissé de nombreuses fois nous sommes enfin arrivés aux abords d’un lac d’altitude, avant de tout redescendre pour reprendre la voiture.
Nous sommes rentrés au gite pour le repas du midi, et j’ai pu faire un tour sur le cheval du cow-boy propriétaire du gite.
Moi et le proprio du gite dont les seuls mots de français qu’il connaissait (et qu’il m’a répété tout le week-end) étaient “en garde” et “vive la France” (il a apparemment trop regardé les 3 mousquetaires)
Après avoir mangé, Greice et sa famille sont repartis et Diane et moi nous nous sommes promenées dans le village voisin.
Sur le chemin nous avons croisé quelques sculptures un peu bizarres :

De retour au village j’ai enfin pu croiser un ours brun plutot sympatique d’ailleurs:
Pour finir cette journée nous sommes allées manger une glace à l’usine Ben&Jerrys
On peut y trouvé le cimetière des saveurs regroupant toutes les saveurs qu’ils ont arrêté de produire.
Y a pas à dire, il y a certains parfums qu’ils ont bien fait d’enterrer…
Ma glace que j’ai été incapable de finir…
Enfin le Lundi matin nous sommes allées visiter les chutes de Bingham.
Nous sommes rentrées tranquillement à Westborough en traversant le Vermont par les petites routes où le seul élan que l’on a croisé était en plastique.
Nous avons acheté des apple cider donuts (spécialité du coin) à déguster avec du cidre chaud au froid (cidre qui s’apparente d’ailleurs plus à du jus de pomme avec quelques bulles plutôt qu’à du vrais cidre).Puis nous sommes passées au dessus des Quechee gorge qui sont assez impressionnantes.
Enfin après 4H de routes nous sommes revenues à Westborough. Le Vermont est une très jolie région, apparemment magnifique quand les arbres changent de couleur (j’espère pouvoir y retourner à cette époque là de l’année). C’est une région montagneuse très boisée et très fréquentée l’hiver pour le ski (on comprend mieux pourquoi ils nous envient les Alpes…).
Ce fut un week-end très enrichissant mais un peu épuisant…
